Lit Junkies Hosts

Here are this month’s questions…
1. What are you reading right now? Tell us about it.
2. What books do you have on request at the library? or What books have you just picked up lately?
3. Do you prefer to read one book at a time, or several at once?
4. What makes you love a book?
5. This one is totally random but Fall is just around the corner and we want to know…what’s your favorite cookbook?

Here are my answers…
1. What are you reading right now? Tell us about it.
I’m still currently reading 2 books (are you surprised?? lol).
Red, White & Screwed by Holly BushRed White and Screwed
Political strategist Glenda Nelson is having a meltdown. Her handpicked, very married Congressional candidate was just caught climbing out of the window of the Sleepytown Motel, and her philandering ex-husband seems to have the most to gain from the colossal scandal that follows. As Glenda attempts to salvage the campaign in a hotly contested race, conservative and liberal pundits pounce on the story to further their own agendas.

Glenda’s love life is nonexistent to say the least, that is, until she meets handsome artist Chris Goodwich. Chris’s easy-going, carefree outlook on life couldn’t be more different than the 90-mph crazy train that is Glenda’s, but the more time she spends with him, the more she craves his calming presence, his sexy smile, and his steamy embraces. Is Chris worth taking a chance on?

Between the pressure of full-blown spin control mode, rapidly declining job security, refereeing two teenagers, caring for aging parents, and spending hours on her therapist’s couch trying to get past her ex’s crushing betrayal, Glenda finds love and makes the long trek back to happy.

Fool for Love by Beth CiottaFool for Love
SHE’S CRAVING A SWEET NEW LIFE…

Call her a fool, but chef-in-training Chloe Madison wants to have her cake and eat it too. So when her boyfriend dumps her for some French tart, she decides to start over from scratch—with a new life and job in Sugar Creek, Vermont. What could be sweeter than cooking for an eccentric lady who’s crazy for desserts? What could be more tempting than joining a club called the Cupcake Lovers? Just one thing: local business-hunk Devlin Monroe…

AND HE’S THE ICING ON THE CUPCAKE

Although he’s the grandson of Chloe’s fun-loving boss, Devlin Monroe is all work and no play. Micro-managing the family business, he doesn’t have time to indulge in life’s sweetest pleasures—until he meets Chloe. How can he resist such a vibrant, beautiful woman who brings so much passion to the table? But when old grudges and secrets threaten to destroy the Cupcake Lovers, Devlin must decide if his feelings for Chloe are a recipe for disaster—or a sinfully delicious ever-after…

2. What books do you have on request at the library? or What books have you just picked up lately?
Ohhh…I’ve been approved for a few fun ones on NetGalley. So that’s what I’ve added to my list. Even though my list is a mile long. I’ve also received a few in the mail to review that sound fun. Here are the newest additions:
Dear Carolina by Kristy Woodson Harvey
Accidental Happiness by Meredith Rachek
Becoming Ellen by Shari Shattuck
X by Sue Grafton
A Window Opens by Elisabeth Egan
Fairytale Beginnings by Holly Martin
The Unfortunate Decisions of Dahlia Moss by Max Wirestone
The Scam by Janet Evanovich and Lee Goldberg

Do you prefer to read one book at a time, or several at once?
I’m definitely going the several at once route. One physical book and one Kindle book. I keep my Kindle with me at all times. It’s smaller than most paperbacks that I read. So I usually have more than 1 story going at all times. See my first answer. 😉

4. What makes you love a book?
If it can hook me in within the first few pages…story, writing, characters. Then I’m going to probably love it. I like to be swept away by books. I don’t like feeling like it’s a chore to read. I don’t like books where the writing feels stilted or the writer is trying to hard. I felt that recently in a book but finally the author picked up her groove a bit and it didn’t turn out so bad.

5. This one is totally random but Fall is just around the corner and we want to know…what’s your favorite cookbook?
I love the Pioneer Woman Cookbooks. But I also like any cookbooks that have comfort food in them: chilis, stews, hearty soups. I watch a lot of Food Network and Cooking Channel, so if I see something inspiring, then I’ll go try and recreate it. I have a ton of cookbooks, but usually derive inspiration from Food Network/Cooking Channel/Pinterest.

Okay, now it’s your turn!
