Bring your outfits to life by using the third piece rule. PHPT Contributor, Lauren McBride, shares one of her best fashion tips: how to put an outfit together with items you probably already have in your closet. Read on to find out more about the third piece rule!
Hey ya’ll! (I can say that because I’m in Texas territory now, right?!?!?!) I’m Lauren from Lauren McBride Blog and today I’m going to share with you lovelies one of my biggest fashion tips EVER for putting an outfit together! It’s super simple and involves things you most likely already have in your closet!
It’s called….the “Third Piece Rule!”
Basically this involves adding a “third” piece to your outfit. If your bottom and top are piece one and two, you would add piece three to pull the entire look together. This can be done in a few ways!
SHOP THIS POST
1. A Cardigan.
This is probably the easiest third piece to add to an outfit, but it really does make all the difference! Imagine if I wasn’t wearing it in this photo below? It just adds more to the look and makes it more stylish!
2. A Jacket.
Probably the second easiest piece to add, as we all have them! Throwing a jacket or a blazer over an outfit makes it look more polished!
3. A Vest.
I love vests because they’re like a step up from a jacket. Jackets and cardigans are more expected than a vest. I like adding a bit of unexpectedness to any outfit. This fur vest below has become a staple in my closet and goes with EVERYTHING.
4. A Scarf.
Scarves are really great because they’re versatile. You can add a pop of color to an outfit, or add some texture! My scarf collection is endless. You can see how this plaid one really pops against my neutral outfit below, and finishes off the fall-inspired look! The same thing can be done with a necklace!
5. A Shirt.
This is a little 90s inspired, but I love how a chambray shirt looks tied around the waist. It just gives the outfit a little something extra!
The “Third Piece Rule” makes any outfit look more polished and put together. It’s not necessary, but it really does make all of the difference! Try this the next time you’re throwing an outfit together, I guarantee you will love the results!
I hope you’ll join me on my blog, Lauren McBride, for more style inspiration!
